Presentation to the Inaugural Australasian Mental Health Outcomes Conference 2007

Hosted by MH-SMART, this conference was held on 2-4 October 2007 in Wellington. It focused on recognising the potential benefits of using mental health outcomes information to influence mental health services into the future.

Lattice Consulting Director Phillipa Gaines introduced day two of the conference with an presentation titled "2051: An Outcomes Odyssey".

National Mental Health Information Strategy

While working for the Ministry of Health, Lattice director Phillipa Gaines developed a five year strategic framework for mental health information that outlines priority areas to support current and future requirements for mental health information in New Zealand.

Additional information is available on the MOH website.

New Zealand Mental Health Classification and Outcomes Study

Phillipa was the national project manager for the New Zealand CAOS project. The study involved eight District Health Boards contributing data to enable the development of the first version of a national casemix classification for specialist mental health services in New Zealand. Information is available from several sources with the final report providing an overview of the study as well as final findings:

A compendium to the final CAOS report was also produced that presented the analysis of the outcomes data that was collated as part of CAOS.

The CAOS project was also the subject of a journal article:

      • World Psychiatry - Official Journal of the World Psychiatric Association (WPA) Volume 3, Number 3, October 2004. Developing a New Zealand Casemix classification for mental health services. Gaines P, Bower A, Buckingham W, Eagar K, Burgess P, and Green J.

National Strategic Framework for Alcohol and Drug Services

While working for the Health Funding Authority, Phillipa co-authored a national strategic framework report with Terry Huriwai in 2001. Written originally for the Health Funding Authority, the Ministry of Health report aimed to provide a national direction for the ongoing development of alchohol and drug treatment services.
